strawberries

Makayla loves fruit, but she definitely goes crazy over strawberries. If we left her alone with a 1 lb box of strawberries, she'd eat the whole thing by herself. We have to show her that there's actually no more left before she stops asking for more.

Today she counted the strawberries in her bowl (6 of them) and then found the biggest one, held it up and said "big!" She kept holding it up and I finally realized that she wanted to give it to me. So cute.

flower girl

Mak was invited to be a flower girl at her first cousins' Ian & Kyla's wedding on June 10, 2012. (Thanks Ian & Kyla!!!)

Usually, Mak doesn't like putting on dresses but this time, she willingly let me put this on her. I think she realizes it's a special dress because she immediately broke out in dance and twirls. She enjoyed posing in front of the mirror and the camera for the next 20-30 minutes.

Now I know my ABCs...

Mak has mastered the ABCs (toddler style). She can recognize all the letters and pronounce them well enough so you know what she's trying to say. Whenever she sees letters, she'd start reading them and singing The ABC song.

She also associates letters with words. A apple...W walrus...Z zebra...Between the alphabet puzzle, YouTube videos and kumon flash cards (which she still thinks are fun) she's picked up a lot of new words lately.

She's also starting to put words together and make short sentences like...

"More yok yok (meat), no rice"
"Play food"
"two bears"

These last couple of days, she said several Chinese words that I was surprised she knew...

Choh - sit
Toh jue - hold hands
Cheui - take off (clothes for bath)

Mak also picked up some Cantonese intonations at the end of verbs like...

wahn AH - let's play
bao LA - I'm full
po AH - pick me up

It's amazon how fast the little brain is learning and absorbing every day!

more words (23 months)

"bob" = tomato
"eesh" = cheese
"EHHHH WEHHHHH" = Eric (imitating popo calling Eric from downstairs)
"eesh" = please
"ew" with a head nod = Thank you
"boy" = not sure if she really means boy
"no way" = no (really don't know where she learned this one)
"aw" = straw
"eh?" = wanna play?
"wai" = "wan" Chinese word for "play"
"orange" = orange
"eh-ai-ss eh-ai-ss" = edelweiss, edelweiss...
"moh-ning" = morning

Mak also started mouthing words when you sing to her as if she's singing with you but with no sounds. It's hilarious!

Here's what her numbers sound like:
1 - usually mouths it with no sound
2 - "oo"
3 - "ee"
4 - "or"
5 - "ai"
6 - "shix"
7 - silent (but she recognizes it if you ask her where 7 is)
8 - "eight!"
9 - "ine"
10 - "en" or "en en"

...guess we need to work on those opening consonants!

Took some random pics with the iphone while practicing saying the word "cheese".
